Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Crystal City

Assembleia de Deus Pentecostal - The church we have provided the most support to over the last 2 years is the Assembleia de Deus Pentecostal located in Luanda, Angola.  The Nascimento family has been our source of contact with this community of believers.  We have contributed Bibles in Portuguese, and over $7000 to date for this church.  Pray for Pastor Araujo and the Christians in Angola.

New Jerusalem Assembly - Another church that we have supported is the New Jerusalem Assembly of the Church of Pentecost in Kumasi, Ghana.  This was the home church of our facilities manager, Victor Sarkodie.  This church, lead by Rev. Moses A. Kenney, has sent us some pictures of a new building they are constructing using some of the financial aid we sent to them.  As this is still the church of Victor’s family in Ghana, we continue in constant prayer for this group of believers.

Tyri Christian Mission Church - In addition to the African churches and school mentioned, we also have provided some support to the home church of our member Lya Viira.  The Tyri Christian Mission Church in Tyri, Estonia, is a thriving local congregation actively spreading the Gospel in Eastern Europe.  Please remember Pastor Neemo Raasik and this expression of the body of Christ in your daily prayers.

Emmanuel Eritrean Baptist Mission - This is new-church-start mission is an ethnic congregation being sponsored by Mt Vernon Baptist.  Led by Pastor Daniel Tesfasselase, a native Eritrean, this congregation reaches out to the Eritrean immigrant population of the greater Washington, DC area.  Services are conducted in Tigrinya, one of the main Eritrean languages.   This mission began in August of 2007, and is being supported by NorthStar Church Network, the District of Columbia Baptist Convention, the Baptist General Association of Virginia, and Mt Vernon. 

The John Leland Center for Theological Studies - The John Leland Center for Theological Studies is committed to preparing leaders for the emerging church.  How should the church respond to this world of opportunity and obstacle?  Leland embraces the challenges of the modern world as an opportunity to share the Gospel.  And John Leland participates with local churches in seeking divine guidance as God calls forth new pastors and teachers.  John Leland is committed to providing a solid biblical theological foundation, professional skills and spiritual formation for students who seek to follow Christ in sharing the Good News within a world of uncertainty.  We at Mt Vernon support this training ground for future Christian leaders.
